Get Your Mudroom Summer Ready

The idea of summertime seems like a blast - vacations, kids running around, camps and more!  Until.... you realize you never transitioned your most utilized spaces to accommodate the summer fun.

Here are some simple ways to help make sure your mudroom is ready for summer traffic!

Mudrooms - tips to transition for summer

1. Designate Areas

Create designated storage areas: Designate specific storage areas for items commonly used in the summer, such as beach towels, sunscreen, bug spray, and flip flops. This will help keep everything organized and make it easy to grab what you need when you're headed out the door. This also means you probably need to do a declutter before repurposing the space!

2. Install Hooks

Install hooks: Hooks are a great way to hang wet swimsuits, towels, and hats. Consider installing hooks at different heights to accommodate items of various sizes and people of different heights. If you’re lacking wall space, look on backs of doors and patio areas!

3. Use Baskets or Bins

Use baskets and bins: Baskets and bins can help corral smaller items like sunscreen, bug spray, and sunglasses. They also make it easy to quickly gather everything you need for a day at the beach. One of our favorites to use in mudrooms is this Nordic Basket from The Container Store. They come in different sizes and easily wipe clean and can withstand liquid.

4. Use a Bench or Seating Area

Consider a bench or seating area: A bench or seating area can serve as a spot to put on shoes or sandals before heading out. It can also double as a place to sit and relax while taking off wet or sandy shoes after a day at the beach. Sometimes you can even use under the bench to store shoes, like this one.

5. Clean and Tidy

Make it a habit to regularly clean your mudroom to keep it tidy and clutter-free. Sweep or vacuum the floors, wipe down any surfaces, and put away any items that have been left out. This will help keep your mudroom looking neat and organized all summer long.

The goal of an organized space that has a purpose is to be able to easily clean it and tidy up. When there is intention about the space and every item has a home, keeping your mudroom summer ready will be a breeze. And transitioning it back to fall/winter will not take long at all!
